thank you so much for waiting for my
sabbath to end so i could get here
really i literally just finished sabbath
hopped in the shower
got in the car and got here and this is
the best way to start a week i can
imagine
so let’s talk a little bit about the
state of california and we all live here
and we all know that california is
essentially a national laughing stock
and for good reason it is the worst run
state in the country
without much doubt we have economic
problems we have social problems we have
cultural problems but
we do have solutions to all these
problems let’s start with some of the
problems then we’ll get to some of the
solutions
let’s talk first off the bat about the
economic problems
in this state so according to figures
from the us department of commerce our
effective gdp from 2017
actually stands at fifth in the world
which is good news right we’re
right behind germany just ahead of the
uk just as a state alone which is an
amazing testament to the number of
people
who work hard and live right in this
state despite what the government would
have you believe
that’s thanks to the amazing amount of
innovation in this state but
california continues to do its best to
drive industry
out of the state obviously taxes in the
state are insane
we have the highest income tax rate in
the nation at 9.3 percent for anyone
making about 53 grand
so you want to clear out the middle
class that’s a pretty easy way of doing
it it’s 13.3
for people making more than a million
bucks we’ve raised the income tax
temporarily
my entire lifetime
[Laughter]
and our income taxes are actually more
volatile than other states because our
income tax doesn’t just cover
income normal income it also covers
investment gains and partnership income
and dividends and interest and rent so
when the economy goes south
then the amount of receipt to the
government actually drops pretty
radically
all in all california is not only a
progressive state it is the most
progressive state people making more
than five hundred thousand dollars in
this state
pay more than half of all taxes in the
state the top one percent
pay 50 of all personal income tax
receipts which means
that our state 150 000 people in this
state
pay the taxes for 40 million people that
is how the the economics of the state of
california works now of course
governor brown has approved
i’m sorry i’m just like we didn’t get
enough of him
10 years before i was born
is
the state has so many new ideas that
were like you know would be a great idea
let’s bring back jerry brown i know if
we have a lot of futurama fans in the
room but the
disembodied head of jerry brown will be
governor in 2040 in this state
governor brown has approved a 12-cent
gas tax hike plus increases on the
annual vehicle fee
have you seen your infrastructure
improving in this state
no no one has ever seen a pothole filled
in the state of california
we still don’t have the proper
infrastructure for ensuring water supply
which is great we have this big drought
and then everybody was supposed to stop
using sprinklers and stop taking showers
and so jerry brown in response to that
drought instead of building new
infrastructure didn’t do anything
and that’s great we also have the
statewide the highest statewide sales
tax rate in the united states at 7.25
percent
the only saving grace in california is
prop 13 so naturally the left wants to
destroy prop 13.
